Remembering Toby Woods ’27

Toby Woods ’27 died on Feb. 21 at the age of 18. He was a prospective economics and music major who graduated as valedictorian of his class at New Canaan High School in New Canaan, Conn. before matriculating at the College. He is remembered by those who knew him as a kind friend, a dedicated musician, and an impressive intellectual who cared deeply about his passions and relationships. Fourteen of his family members, friends, and instructors shared memories of Woods with the Record.
Spring approval ratings survey shows increased approval of Record, decreased approval of Dean’s Office

Last week, the Record sent its biannual approval ratings survey to 500 randomly selected students using a script in R. The survey asked students to indicate their approval, disapproval, or neutrality on many campus institutions, including the Junior Advisor (JA) system, the Davis Center, and President of the College Maud S. Mandel.

College community remembers Tonio Palmer

Tonio Palmer, former director of entrepreneurship at the ’68 Center for Career Exploration, died on April 28, President of the College Maud S. Mandel announced in a statement. He was 65 years old and battled with a rare cancer, ocular melanoma. Palmer worked at the College from 2017 until his retirement earlier this year.

WUFO qualifies for national championship for third consecutive year

Last weekend, the Williams Ultimate Frisbee Organization (WUFO) — the College’s ultimate frisbee club team for male and nonbinary athletes — successfully advanced to the USA Ultimate Div. III College Championship. The team took on a strong New England regional field, posting five convincing wins in a row to make it to the regional final, before succumbing to the Middlebury Pranksters, ranked first in the nation.

On Saturday, Hoxsey Street was buzzing with students in neon clothing carrying gallon jugs full of mysterious liquids. The daytime party — the “darty” known colloquially as “Sensations” — is an annual event on the first Saturday of May. But the Record wanted to know more: When did the tradition begin, and why?
